An Indication of Epic

October 11th, 2012

First off, a quick reminder: Epic does not mean perfect. It does mean exhilarating, but the exhilaration and epic nature of it only come following effort and struggle that are experienced in pursuit of it. Even the birth of a child, which definitely qualifies as an epic experience, is not handed to anyone. There are many struggles that occur en route, and I’m not just talking about the “labor.”

I think the best indication that something is epic, is that upon hearing about it, or having an idea, you “sign up” for it immediately, or very seriously consider committing to it. It nags at you. It has the effect of you saying, “I have do this. I need to do this. I need this. I must do this.” And then, very importantly, committing to it is often followed by, an (excuse my language) “Oh shit.” Or, “What have I gotten myself into?”

In my humble opinion and experience, these are good indications that you’ve committed to something that is, and will be, important and worthwhile to you and your life.

What is pulling at you right now that you need to commit to? I thank you in advance for sharing.

Will never forget the “pull” of knowing I must do the r2r2r after you described it! Thank you so much!!

I’m going to Nepal to hike up to Everest base camp. It’s beckoning me daily

My Epic Life is me embracing the unknown and exhilarating life back here in Canada. No job to come home to and an opportunity to carve out a space in the universe that fits me like a glove. Being fully present in my dreams of creating community and connection. YAY!

In the past year I’ve worked hard to reach a fitness goal but once I reached it, I fell off the wagon. It doesn’t take me long to get off track. It’s really hard for me to measure my fitness success if I don’t have a goal. I need that incentive to reach towards the next goal. I sat down this past weekend and planned out my new fitness goals. I have things marked on a calendar for what my workouts are going to be and I menu planned for the week. I’ve got things planned out for the next 60 days and prior to my 60 days being finished I PLAN to set a new goal to keep me going through the following 60 days……

Just love you, Shelli Johnson! Your adventures always give me that “I’ve got to sign up for that!” feeling. And, oh holy crap, how thankful am I that I did sign up for one!! You are surely missing out if you don’t sign yourself up for any kind of adventure that excites you, but also scares you. That is the theme of my life lately, and I couldn’t be more stoked about the choices I’ve made. The CWC Women’s Hiking Series that I jumped on without even consulting friends, family, etc. was one of the most epic, exhilarating decisions I have made yet!
